Life's a Garden: Dig It!

Our little backdoor garden had a rough summer--our apologies if you wandered back and found a desolate moonscape. The good news: summer is officially over, and we are excited for cooler temperatures. Our fall garden hosts ferns, lobelia, snapdragons, and more. Stop by and visit!

Gardening is an enjoyable activity for many residents on Campus, whether in the Community garden or on their own balconies or patios. The physical and emotional benefits of gardening have encouraged the development of gardening systems--such as raised beds on wheels--that can be used in health care settings where people may be otherwise unable to make these connections.

The value of reducing stress and pain in medical settings through these connections to nature is noted in scientific and economic terms by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) here.
